            TESTS

No. 1   From the deep end of the pool the FIRST MEMBER of each team will throw an uncoiled, unweighted rope to the SECOND team member, who will be treading water facing the FIRST MEMBER, 10 metres from the bath side.  Stop watches will be started on the ‘Go’ signal from the Starter, and will be stopped when the SECOND team member makes contact with the side following the rope pull.  A MAXIMUM 60 seconds will be allowed for each throw after which a whistle will be blown to indicate            time up.  The best of three throws made by each team will be the result time recorded.  The team with the fastest time will be awarded 12 points, second fastest 10 points, etc.

No. 2   Commencing at the deep end of the pool, on a ‘Go’ signal from the Starter, stopwatches will be started and the SECOND team member, carrying a rigid aid, will enter the water by a jump or dive, and swim to the THIRD team member, who will be positioned 25 metres out, facing the rescuer.  The rescuer will make a non-contact tow using the aid and stop watches will be stopped when the rescuer makes contact with the starting end.  The fastest team will be awarded 12 points, the second team 10 points, etc.  No points will be awarded if the rescuer loses contact with the subject during any part of the tow.

No. 3   For each team a lifesaving brick, simulating an unconscious and asphyxiated body, will be placed on the bottom of the pool at a minimum depth of 1.5 metres.  The THIRD team member will enter the water at the deep end and, with a surface dive, retrieve the brick, which will be shown to the Judges and be exchanged for a body, (the FIRST team member) which will be floating face down nearby.  The rescuer will tow the body to the nearest bath side and assess the casualty for signs of breathing and pulse while in the water.  After which the body will be assumed breathing, landed (assisted by the SECOND team member and an additional bystander if required) on the poolside and placed in the recovery position.  The Judges will then ask the rescuer three questions on recognition and treatment for shock and after-care.  Points will be awarded for:-
