2000-2001 Yorkshire and Humberside Shore Angling Championships Report A rather dismal year in terms of fish caught. We fished three venues - Hornsea, Scarborough and Spurn. Hornsea produced only two fish to Norman Swinburn (Whiting) and Steve "Flatty" Adkin (Flatty!). We did much better at Scarborough. Although initially intending to fish the pier some thought it unsafe to do so and it was agreed to turn the match into a rover. Half of the competitors stayed at the pier and half moved to the North Beach, in front of the Sea Life Centre. Three weighed in from the pier and three from the North Beach who got better bags of mainly cod. The last match was at Spurn and again we agreed to make it a rover from within the gates. 15 Anglers despite having a coastline of six miles between them were unable to bring any fish to the scales! So no one competitor managed to score in more than one match! However we were all pleased to see Derek Anderson and Norman Swinburn back in action after two years absence each due to illness, Len Simpson who had been working away for a year! We were also pleased to welcome new competitors Alan Walsh and Mick Walshaw (the word is spreading!!!). A meeting was held after the Spurn match on 3rd February when the competitors suggested and agreed venues for 2001/01 season and trophies were awarded. Norman Swinburn said he would not be able to take his place at the finals and so the representative team for the 2001 finals will be:- Steve Ives, Martin Bradshaw and Steve Adkin (Alan Walsh is first reserve).
