CSSC Swimmer Katie Goodall swims the channel

Department for Transport and CSSC swimmer Katie Goodall

CSSC swimmer Katie Goodall who works for the Department for Transport has had a busy summer going from Dover to Calais the hard way. This is her report for her DFT magazine.

Fewer people have swum the Channel than have climbed Everest, but a lawyer from the Department is now one of them.

Katie Goodall crossed the Channel in ten hours and 23 minutes in July. This makes her one of the top ten fastest British women swimmers. She braved water temperatures of 16 degrees and relied on her crew to guide her safely across the busiest shipping lane in the world. 'The biggest challenge is being alone with your thoughts,' Katie says. 'It's such a great feeling when you put your feet down on the other side. Next time I'll be taking the ferry though!'

Well done Katie!

As most CSSC swimmers know by now the CSSC ASA is hoping to put in a 6 person team against each of the individual forces in a cross channel relay race in 2009. I think Katie's achievement this year must put her in with a very good chance of making the CSSC team in 2009! What a swim!
