Yorks & Humbs Shore Angling Reports and Results 2001/2002

The first Yorks & Humbs shore qualifier was held at Bridlington on 16th November 2001 (3 - 8). Unusually everyone managed to get themselves on the scoreboard in what was a cracking match! The results speak for themselves.

Position/points Name INCHES
1 S Ostler 189.00
2 T Brown 185.25
3 A Walsh 144.50
4 S Ives 143.50
5 M Bradshaw 132.50
6 I Colquhoun 112.50
7 S Adkin 87.25
8 R Coole 49.75
9 N Swinburne 43.00
10 K Gelder 35.75
11 H Whitley 20.75
12 G Barnes 20.25
13 D Anderson 13.00

Most of the fish caught were whiting and at times it was a bite a cast. Also there were several dab, flounder and rockling caught.

It was nice to see Adrian Horner, who is recovering from major surgery, turn up to see us and wish us look. It won't be long before Adrian will be joining us again for our matches.

The second Yorks & Humbs shore qualifier was held at Withernsea south Beach on Saturday 15th December 2001 (2 - 7) with quite a good turn out.

An onshore wind and the disappearance of a lot of the beach made fishing conditions rather difficult. This was especially the case for those who fished furthest south and who spent three quarters of the match fishing from the promenade itself (as well as having to negotiate the large boulders below), as the tide came right up against the sea defences by about 3.30pm.

Despite the above six people managed to weigh in, the result is as follows:-

Position/points Name INCHES
1 S Ives 85.50
2 A Walsh 46.50
2 T Brown 46.50
4 M Bradshaw 39.75
5 S Ostler 14.25
6 D Anderson 9.00

Some 20 fish were 'weighed-in' in total.

Simon Ostler

Scarborough 26th January 2002

On a cold windy day there was little incentive for anglers not already in the top 5 positions as only they could qualify, however we did get a turn out of 11, more than expected. The only fish caught in size was a 9 inch Rockling by Simon Ostler that took him from 4th to first place in the table!

5            Proposals for rule changes

A            Proposed that the full catch (length) from all three matches should count.

Proposed by Steve Ives and Seconded by Derrick Anderson

Derrick argued that because of the results of the first two matches this year there was no incentive for him and a few others to fish the final match as they knew they could not get in the first three places no matter how well they did today. By adding the length from all three matches someone not having a catch or being able to fish in the first two would still have a chance to win the competition out right at the third match.

This was adopted 5 votes to 4

B            Proposed that we adopt the Angling Council match rules and change when they do to ensure across the sport.

Proposed by Iain Colquhoun

Seconded by Graham Barnes

Adopted unanimous

6            Organiser

It was agreed that Tony Brown would be the new shore organiser.

Proposed Martin Bradshaw and seconded Simon Ostler

Agreed unanimously
